Dozens Taken to Hospital After NJ Transit Bus, Car Collide in Newark

Dozens of people were taken to a hospital Monday after a car and an NJ Transit bus collided in Newark, but no one was seriously hurt, authorities said.

The two vehicles collided at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Market Street around 4:30 a.m. The front of the car had significant damage and it appeared that it had t-boned the side of the bus.

The bus appeared to have minor damage to the front driver's side.

The NJ Transit spokeswoman said that the bus was carrying 29 customers and the driver at the time of the crash. A driver and passenger were in the car.

Police say all people on the bus and in the car were taken to a hospital for treatment and evaluation, but they are all expected to be OK.

The 19-year-old driver of the car was issued summonses for not having a license, careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt, among other traffic violations. The owner of the car was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver behind the wheel. Police say the investigation is ongoing.

Two people were killed and 17 people were injured when a NJ Transit bus t-boned another NJ Transit bus in Newark back in August.
