Livery Cab Driver Shot to Death in Newark: Police

Police are investigating the shooting death of a livery cab driver on Friday night in Newark.

Rodrigo Berru, 45, was shot at 9:45 p.m. on Frelinghuysen Avenue, according to the Essex County Prosecutor's Office. A passer-by called police, who arrived at the scene to find the cabbie unresponsive.

Berru, who worked for Classic Taxi, was pronounced dead at 9:47 p.m. His death is the 59th homicide in Newark this year, according to police.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and that no one has been arrested.
