Man Arrested for Running Over Girlfriend With Truck: Police

Detectives captured a 44-year-old New Jersey man Sunday, nearly 20 hours after they say he fled after attempting to murder his girlfriend by running her over with his truck, authorities said.

James Crudup and his 35-year-old girlfriend were involved in a verbal altercation at a gas station in Toms River at around 12:30 a.m., when he threw her on the ground and began choking her, police said.

Crudup then allegedly got into his truck and backed into the woman, pinning her between the bumper and a gas pump before striking her again several times with the vehicle. He drove over the woman's legs before fleeing west on Route 37, police said.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital. Her injuries do not appear life threatening, police said.

In addition to attempted murder, Crudup was charged with several motor vehicle violations, police said. It was unclear whether he had a lawyer.
