NJ Man Arrested for Shooting His Grandmother: Cops

Bergen County prosecutors say Joseph C. Bariso shot his grandmother as she slept on the couch

Police arrested a Lodi man Monday on attempted murder charges for allegedly shooting his grandmother multiple times as she slept on the living room couch, authorities said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said 29-year-old Joseph C. Bariso used a handgun from the Union Street residence he shared with his 85-year-old grandmother to shoot her around 6:20 a.m. on Sunday.

Rutherford police found him walking along Rutherford Avenue at about 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, police said. He is due in court on Tuesday to face weapons and attempted murder charges.  He is being held at the Bergen County jail on $2 million bail. The weapon has not been recovered.

Olga Bariso remains hospitalized in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center after undergoing surgery late Sunday.

Bergen County prosecutors the suspect, victim, her husband and another relative share the Union Street residence together.  Authorities did not offer a motive for the shooting.
