NJ Man Admits to Stealing Thousands of Canada Dry Drinks From ShopRite

A New Jersey man's scheme to pilfer thousands of soft drinks went flat after a supermarket's loss prevention manager noticed $20,000 worth of soda was gone, police said.

Abel Parra Pena, a ShopRite delivery driver, was arrested last Friday for stealing roughly $20,000 in soft driinks, officials from the Jersey City Police Department said Wednesday.

Jersey City police officers responded to the ShopRite supermarket on Marin Boulevard around 1:30 p.m. Friday, authorities said. The store's loss prevention manager told authorities about a discrepancy in the Canada Dry products that were being shipped and billed to the store.

The manager said 58,084 Canada Dry products were delivered to the store since November 2016, but only 53,913 were actually received.

According to a police report, employees said 3,239 Canada Dry drinks were stolen.

Parra-Pena confessed to stealing the products after authorities questioned the Bergenfield man, the report said.
