Christie: More Centers Can Grow Medical Weed

Gov. Chris Christie has announced a deal over medical marijuana in New Jersey that would allow more places to grow and offer pot to patients, but would continue to limit potency of the drug.

The compromise might be enough to short-circuit an effort in the Legislature to throw out medical marijuana regulations proposed by Christie's administration.

It would allow six centers to both grow and distribute medical marijuana. Christie had wanted only two growers and four distribution centers.

Lawmakers voted nearly a year ago to allow medicinal cannabis. But some lawmakers said the rules proposed by the administration undermined the intent of the law.

Christie worked out the compromise with one of the prime sponsors of the law.
