NJ Firefighters Hurt Battling Late Night Blaze

Several firefighters were nursing minor injuries Sunday after battling a fire ripped through at least two buildings along Hoboken's main business district overnight.

Residents of the buildings were safely evacuated. The blaze was reported under control early Sunday morning.

Flames were seen coming from the top of a building at 507 Washington St. around 10 p.m. Saturday. The fire also damaged a neighboring building.

Police Chief Ken Ferrante said an unspecified number of firefighters were injured as they fought the fire in brisk winds. He said the injuries were minor.

The fire attracted the attention of dozens of nighttime revelers in a mile-square city across the Hudson River from midtown Manhattan that's known for its thriving nightlife. The fire also forced the shutdown of several blocks of the main business thoroughfare to accommodate numerous fire and police vehicles.
