Mystery Boat Washes Ashore in New Jersey

Authorities are investigating an empty boat that mysteriously washed ashore in New Jersey earlier this week as a case of abandoned property, police said.

The powerboat appeared to have been at sea for some time before it washed up on Asbury Park's First Avenue beach Wednesday, according to the town's deputy chief of police, Anthony Salerno.

No passengers were aboard and its engine was gone, Salerno said.

The boat is registered in Queens, New York.

The Asbury Park Sun obtained pictures of it in the surf before it was towed to a storage area.

The Coast Guard is investigating.
