Police are investigating after a 59-year-old Harlem man was found dead in his apartment Thursday morning.

Milton Ortiz was found bound and gagged at around 9 a.m. in his first-floor apartment on East 126th Street, police said.

Ortiz, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had lived in the apartment for decades and had a home health aide.

His brother said Ortiz had a chemical imbalance that made him vulnerable but that his death is a complete mystery.

"There's no reason for whatever happened to him,” said Edward Ortiz.

Neighbors say Milton Ortiz was a familiar face in the area and often greeted them with a friendly “hello.”

“The whole situation is very bizarre considering he had no enemies,” said Steven Goldman, who owns a local business. “No motive. No enemies."
