2 Killed, 1 Hurt in Queens Highway Crash: NYPD

Two people were killed and another was hurt when a car plowed into a box truck that had stopped on the side of the Grand Central Parkway Friday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

Authorities say that the sedan was headed east on the parkway near 31st Street in Astoria when it hit the box truck on the shoulder of the road at about 2 a.m., the NYPD says.

When authorities arrived, the two men in the car were unconscious; they were later pronounced dead. The box truck's driver had minor injuries.

The victims have been identified as 32-year-old Eran Felices of Ridgewood and 36-year-old David Garcia of East Harlem. 

The parkway's eastbound lanes were closed for several hours after the crash near 31st Street at about 2 a.m., but it reopened at about 9 a.m. 

It's not clear why the box truck was parked on the roadway.

Authorities are investigating the crash.
