Moving Day for L.I. Students Displaced by Inferno

Students affected by a fire move to a new building

Students at West Babylon's South Bay Elementary School resume classes today -- but not at their heavily damaged school building that was struck by fire Thursday.

Instead, 16 classrooms have been prepared to host them at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, about a mile from their school.

About 360 youngsters were displaced by the destructive blaze that officials believe started in a maintenance room.  But, the cause is still under investigation.

It's likely the students will have to attend classes in their new surroundings for the rest of the school year while rebuilding takes place at South Bay.

A wing at Our Lady of Grace just happened to be empty.  It was built in the 1960's with the intention of being used as classrooms.  But, was never used for that purpose.

School officials say all classes will remain intact with the same students and teachers during the move.
