4 Shot Outside Mount Vernon Bar

The investigation is ongoing

Four people were shot when gunfire erupted outside a bar in Mount Vernon early Wednesday, police and witnesses said.

Police responded to the 2 a.m. shooting on South Fifth Avenue outside the Garden Bar and found three gunshot victims at the scene. Another victim was located a short time later after seeking treatment at an area hospital.

Police say the victims had been attending a party at the bar when shots rang out. A 28-year-old man who police believe was the intended target is in critical condition after being shot in the leg.

A 17-year-old female was shot in the left thigh and right calf. A 38-year-old man was wounded in the arm and a 32-year-old man suffered a graze wound to his thigh. Those three victims are in serious condition.

At least two bullets went through the bar window, leaving an American flag hanging on the other side of the glass in tatters.

Longtime residents in the area say the gunfire is uncharacteristic of their usually quiet neighborhood.

Police said they did not know if the shooting was gang-related.
