Police have arrested a man in connection with the death of his mother, a civilian employee of the NYPD's transit bureau who was found stabbed to death and wrapped in garbage bags in her home.
Lonnie Corey Scott III was charged with murder on Tuesday. Police say the body of his mother, Sylvia Scott, was found Monday in her Queens apartment.
They say she had been stabbed to death.
The suspect's girlfriend told The New York Times that Scott had been "acting strange" all weekend and had gone to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation on Sunday. He was released to his mother's custody later the same day.
She was found dead less than 24 hours later.
Sylvia Scott had worked nearly 32 years for the NYPD's transit bureau.
Information about Scott's lawyer wasn't immediately available.
