Cops Seek Father-in-Law in Deadly Shooting

Police are seeking 73-year-old Eugene Palmer in the murder of his daughter-in-law

Police investigating the shooting death of a 36-year-old woman in Rockland County are searching for the woman's father-in-law.

Officers responded to 570 Willow Grove Rd. in Stony Point early Monday after a caller reported hearing three gunshots from the home.

Tammy Palmer, a mother of two teenagers, was found dead on the ground behind the house.

After talking to relatives of Palmer, police labeled her father-in-law, 73-year-old Eugene Palmer, a person of interest.

"She doesn't deserve to be dead," said the victim's grieving mother Violet Pannirello.

Eugene Palmer's sister told reporters Tammy Palmer and her father-in-law were feuding, stemming from marital problems between Tammy and her husband.

"He's been trying to look out for the kids, and her being a mother, didn't want him butting in. But him being a grandfather, thought it was his place, so they started to aggravate and annoy each other," said Elaine Babcock, the sister of Eugene Palmer.

It's not clear what sparked Monday's sudden violence.

State Police were assisting in the search for Eugene Palmer, a former park ranger who may be hiding in Harriman State Park.
