Baby's Corpse Thrown Out With NJ Hospital's Trash

Is it a medical tragedy or a hospital cover-up?

That's what investigators are trying to figure out as they search for the tiny body of Bashere Davon Moyd Jr.

Officials at Jersey City's Christ Hospital said the baby was stillborn on Dec. 21 and his body was placed in the hospital morgue. But the baby's mother, Kalynn Moore, said the boy was born alive and died after doctors worked to stabilize him for 20 minutes.

"Tell me the truth; what happened to my baby?" Moore asked at a news conference Tuesday, flanked by her attorney, Michael Anise. "It's like, really heartbreaking."

Anise said a nurse cleaned up the baby, dressed him in a hat and blanket and gave the baby to the mom to hold, just long enough for a picture to be taken, Moore's only tangible memory of her baby.

But when funeral-home workers came to pick up the boy's body days later, it was nowhere to be found, perhaps accidentally thrown in the trash. That trash is no longer at the hospital, prompting investigators to search garbage dumps in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and even Kentucky, and ask if the disposal was an honest accident or a deliberate act to cover up a medical mistake.
