A young child strapped in a stroller fell onto the subway tracks at a station in Queens when the mother moved to throw trash in the garbage can on the platform, officials say.

Two people on the platform, along with the mother, jumped onto the E train tracks to pull the child to safety after the accident at the Archer Avenue station in Jamaica around 11:30 a.m. Monday.

The child was treated for bruises at the hospital and is expected to be OK, fire officials said.

It wasn't clear if the mother was hurt. It also wasn't clear if the people who helped the mother were subway riders or workers.

    Subway service was not affected.
