Woman Killed in Bronx Apartment Fire

A woman was killed in a fire at a Bronx apartment building Friday evening, officials said.

The unidentified 67-year-old woman was taken from the bedroom of her sixth-floor apartment at 694 E. 149th St. in Morrisania with burns to her body, police said.

She later died at the hospital, according to police.

Nearly 80 firefighters responded to the fire at the 20-story public housing project.

Neighbors said the victim couldn't walk very well and mostly stayed home.

That unit sustained the most damage in the fire; other homes had a little water damage.
