Boy on Scooter Hit by Parks Department Van: Police

A 6-year-old boy riding a scooter in a Manhattan park was struck by a parks department van Tuesday evening, police say.

The boy was riding his scooter in Morningside Park near 113th Street and Morningside Avenue when he fell at about 6 p.m.

While he was on the ground, a passing Department of Parks vehicle struck him, according to police.

He was taken to Harlem Hospital with a fracture to his leg, and was listed in serious but stable condition.

The driver remained on the scene, and no criminality is suspected, police said.

The parks department had no comment.
