Morningside Heights Muggers Steal iPods, Cell Phones

Police say pair works together to distract, steal from pedestrians

Police say a pair of robbers has been assaulting and stealing from pedestrians in Morningside Heights, making off with cell phones, cash and iPods.

The thieves have been working in tandem during the muggings, according to police; one man would act as a lookout while the other approached the victim.

The duo is believed to be behind four robberies, all on Morningside Drive between 116th and 120th streets, from Friday, Aug. 12 to Sunday, Aug. 21. They all happened between 1:40 p.m. and 7 p.m., said police

The victims were a 30-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, a 27-year-old man and a 23-year-old man. Police said in some of the robberies, a knife was shown and threatened to the victims.
