It's that time once again in the school year..prom season. We all know the costs for prom can be very expensive, but one community has gotten together to give more than 150 girls the chance to shine. Officials in Westchester County and the non-profit group, Operation Prom gave away hundreds of donated dresses to some well-deserving high school girls. The girls in today's fitting came from either low-income homes, shelters or group homes. Their dates weren't left out--several high school boys were also fitted with free tuxes.
It's that time once again in the school year -- prom.
And for some much deserving local teens that special event will be extra memorable: More than 150 high school girls in White Plains were given free prom dresses.
The teens, who live in shelters, group homes, or very low-income households, got to look through hundreds of new or gently used prom and bridesmaid dresses donated by local businesses, schools and individuals. A number of boys were also be fitted for free tuxedos.
The event was organized by Westchester County officials and the non-profit group "Operation Prom."
To request a free prom dress or tuxedo, students needed to be passing all their classes and be recommended by their guidance counselor, as well as have a severe financial need.
