Police Locate Mom Who Allegedly Snatched Baby From Hospital

The mother and baby were located in a livery cab in Queens

Police have located the mother who allegedly took off with her infant child, of whom she did not have custody, during a doctor's exam at a Queens hospital Wednesday.

Leila Rajnarine, 40, was located by police in a livery cab near 123rd Street and 101st Avenue in South Richmond Hill, Queens, Wednesday evening, police sources said. Her 8-month-old child was safely found with her, and taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Rajnarine was taken into police custody.

Police said Rajnarine took her biological child, Navita Jagdeo, after accompanying the foster mother to Queens General Hospital in Jamaica for a regular check-up.

At some point during the check-up, the doctor and the foster mother stepped out of the exam room to speak privately. That's when Rajnarine took her baby and ran out of the hospital, said officials.

The Administration for Children's Services and its foster care agency worked with the NYPD to search for the mother and child.
