Less than a week after US Airways flight 1549 and its 154 passengers narrowly cheated death, designer Kenneth Cole has used their plight to sell shoes.

"In tough times, some land on their feet (others on the Hudson). -- Kenneth Cole," reads the giant billboard looming over drivers on Manhattan's West Side Highway. Beneath that message, in small print, it says, "Thank you to the pilots, crew, and N.Y.ers for all that you did, and all that you do."

The new sign is intended to "give thanks to those who saved and rescued the passengers of US Airways flight A320," Cole told New York Magazine.
