Minor League Pitcher Dies After Shooting in Burger King Lot, Still No Suspect: Police

The minor league pitcher shot in the head in a drive-by shooting outside a fast-food restaurant in Yonkers last month has died, and police are offering a $5,000 reward for information in the investigation into his homicide.

Michael Nolan, a 23-year-old pitcher from Yonkers who was drafted last year by the Oakland As, died Oct. 9, nearly a month after being shot in the head and the torso on Sept. 18, according to police.

Nolan had been listed in very serious condition since the shooting in the parking lot of a Burger King on Central Park Avenue. He was standing outside his car with his friends when someone drove up on a service road and fired five or six shots at Nolan before driving off, police said. There was no return fire.

Police said Tuesday they're searching for a suspect in Nolan's killing and are offering a $5,000 reward for information.

Nolan was a Saunders Trades and Technical High School graduate, according to his father.

Yonkers police called Nolan's shooting "senseless," adding he was of high regard in the community. Authorities are looking for possible surveillance video that may help lead to an arrest. Police had previously said they're looking for a pale yellow two-door Honda in connection with the shooting.

Nolan was playing in the Arizona League Athletics, Oakland's rookie-league team in Phoenix. He was drafted in the 18th round of last year's MLB draft, but was placed on the restricted list for players not currently competing in July 2014.
