Robbers Hold Up Armored Truck Guard Leaving Bank: FBI

The trio got away with an unknown amount of cash

A group of armed men dressed in heavy winter clothing held up an armored car guard leaving a Queens bank in the middle of the day Friday and got away with cash, authorities say.

The FBI and NYPD are now looking for the trio of brazen robbers.

According to the FBI, a Garda World armored truck drove up to the HSBC bank at 82-57 Broadway at about noon, and an armed guard walked into the bank to make a regularly scheduled pick-up of deposits.

As the guard was leaving, he was attacked by three men at gunpoint while in the ATM lobby, the FBI said.

Surveillance images show the suspects may have used a .45 semi-automatic handgun to hold up the guard and steal cash from him. The men sprayed pepper spray at the guard, then ran off, heading west on Broadway, authorities said.

They may have gotten into a navy blue or black Ford Explorer to get away, the FBI said.

It's not clear how much cash they took.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at 212-384-1000. The suspects should be considered armed and extremely dangerous, the FBI says.
