Mayor Bill de Blasio Bets Rainbow Bagels That Mets Will Win Wild Card Game

Mayor Bill de Blasio is so confident the Mets will win the National League wild-card game against the San Franciso Giants at Citi Field Wednesday that he's willing to put a couple rainbow bagels -- and a Halloween costume -- on the line.

De Blasio and San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee made the wager on Twitter, with de Blasio proclaiming, "SF does a lot well but NYC has you beat when it comes to baseball. #LGM"

Lee responded, "Hey @BilldeBlasio, there's only 'b' that NYC does better than SF, and that's bagels, NOT baseball. @SFGiants will win tonight!"

De Blasio doubled down, betting Lee that the Mets would win Game 1.

"I'll put our latest bagel innovation on the line," he tweeted, adding a photo of the wildly popular rainbow bagels, originated at Brooklyn's The Bagel Store.

Lee agreed to the bet, adding that he'd send over some Philz Coffee if the Giants win Wednesday's game.

De Blasio then upped the ante even further, saying that the losing team's mayor would wear a the opposing team's Willy Mays jersey for Halloween. Mays spent most of his career with the Giants -- which were in New York when he started playing baseball -- before finishing his career with the Mets.

The Empire State Building, meanwhile, will shine in orange and blue Wednesday evening in support of the Mets.

Madison Bumgarner will start for the Giants against Noah Syndergaard and the Mets in Queens. The winner moves on to face the major league-best Chicago Cubs (103-58) in a best-of-five Division Series. The loser heads home for the winter.
