Man Accused of Paying Man to Light Boat on Fire, Collecting $100,000 in Insurance

A 44-year-old New Jersey man has been charged with hiring another man to set his boat on fire in a marina three years ago, setting him up for a $100,000 insurance payday.

The 18-count indictment charges Bruce Roslin, of Little Egg Harbor, with hiring 32-year-old Jonathan Dockery to light his 26-foot 2007 ProKat on fire while it was docked at the Tuckerton Marine Service Center in September 2009.

The fire destroyed Roslin's boat and caused damage to vessels docked near it, as well as the marina.

Roslin then applied for and received insurance proceeds of more than $100,000, authorities said. He was charged with arson for hire, a first-degree crime, for allegedly offering Dockery money to do the job. He also faces insurance fraud and theft by deception charges.

Dockery was charged with arson for hire for allegedly agreeing to accept the money in exchange for destroying the boat. Both face arson conspiracy charges.

Roslin was arrested Tuesday and is being held on $150,000 bail. Dockery was released on his own recognizance. Information on a lawyer for either man wasn't immediately available.
