Manhole Explosion in Brooklyn Caught on Video

A manhole was seen smoking in Brooklyn Wednesday night before it suddenly exploded, video shows.

The video posted online shows the smoke coming out of the manhole at Second Street and Fifth Avenue in Park Slope.

A few seconds later, it exploded.

No injuries and no property damage were reported, according to Con Edison.

Con Ed said an “equipment failure” was to blame, but the cause is still under investigation.

The explosion also caused two other manholes on Fifth Avenue to smoke, Con Ed said.

Power was cut off temporarily to about five dozen customers overnight while Con Ed made repairs.
