Man Rams NYC Cop With Minivan: Police

A man is accused of driving a minivan into a plainclothes police officer, pinning him against an iron fence and causing injuries to his legs and lower torso.

The unidentified officer was in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital on Saturday afternoon.

But police say the outcome could have been far worse. They say the minivan driver had attempted to ram the officer a second time with the vehicle, but the officer dodged behind a tree.

Police say it was about 11:48 p.m. Friday when the officer was struck.

The minivan driver is expected to be arraigned in Manhattan on charges including felony assault.

He was identified as a 56-year-old man from Hartsdale. Police could not immediately say what had motivated the suspect to ram the officer with his car.
