A man allegedly caught stealing a motorcycle was shot and wounded by an off-duty police officer, law enforcement officials said.

The incident happened at 152 Tapscott street in Brooklyn, police said.  That's where the off duty officer caught a suspect "in the commission of a crime." According to the NYPD, the officer "was forced" to discharge his weapon.  What led up the shooting is still unclear.

The suspect was hit once in the torso and was taken to Brookdale Hospital where he is in stable condition.
