Man Who Shot Eric Garner Chokehold Video Arrested on Drug Charges

The man who recorded video of the fatal police chokehold of Eric Garner in New York City has been charged with drug possession.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Ramsey Orta was arrested Wednesday after he sold $40 worth of MDMA to an undercover officer.

Last July, Orta recorded an NYPD officer restraining Eric Garner, who is seen yelling "I can't breathe!" 11 times before he passed out. The medical examiner ruled Garner's death a homicide and found that a chokehold contributed to it.

The video has been viewed tens of thousands of times.

Orta's lawyer says Orta denies the charges and did not commit the crime.

Orta was also arrested in August and charged with criminal possession of a weapon. He pleaded not guilty and that case is pending.
