Man Wanted for Stealing Mail, Cashing Checks: NYPD

A 23-year-old man has been cashing checks he stole from the mailboxes of at least 18 victims across the city since January of last year, police said.

Since January 2014, Gilroy Pacheco has been stealing mail, using chemicals to remove payees’ names from money orders found in the mail and then cashing them under his or other people’s names, the NYPD said.

Pacheco is wanted on grand larceny charges for stealing mail from 18 homes in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The last alleged mail theft happened May 4th in the Bronx.

Police released photos of Pacheco (above) and ask that anyone with information on his whereabouts call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
