A 23-year-old man and a 16-year old girl were found gunned down in Newark Saturday afternoon.

Newark police and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said cousins Damien Matteaux and Nyquese McCollum were discovered in a parked vehicle shot to death in the city's West Ward.

Authorities believe Matteaux was targeted but have not released any information on a suspect or a motive.

Police say Matteaux, of Newark, and McCollum, of Irvington, were on their way to pick up Matteaux's girlfriend at her job in Union at the time of the shooting.

The killings were the 63rd and 64th in Newark this year. They came about two weeks after a 10-day period in which 10 people were murdered in the city.
