Man in Stolen Truck Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver: NY State Police

A Long Island man is charged with leaving the scene of an accident that killed the driver of a stolen vehicle, New York State Police said Sunday.

Wilkens Thelusma, 37, of East Farmingdale, was driving along the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday when he hit a man later identified as Rick Munoz, 27, of Oyster Bay, police said.

Munoz was struck as he walked away from a stolen box truck that he had just crashed into the center guide rail of the highway.

Investigators identified Thelusma's vehicle from debris left behind at the crash scene.

Troopers charged Thelusma with a felony count of leaving the scene of a incident. There was no information as to whether he had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charge.
