A subway passenger was stabbed to death in front of horrified riders in a dispute with another man over a seat early Saturday morning in midtown Manhattan, police said.
The incident happened aboard a "D'' train in Midtown at about 2 a.m. Saturday.
The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the Seventh Avenue station at West 53rd Street, where the train stopped after the attack at about 2 a.m. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Dwight Johnson of Brooklyn.
Gerardo Sanchez, 37, of the Bronx, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the slaying
Police had been alerted to the fight and were waiting on the platform when the train pulled into a station at West 53 Street and 7 Avenue.
They say the alleged killer was standing over his bloodied victim when the doors opened. The train conductor locked the doors and kept the suspect in the train until police could arrest him.
