Music Producer Shot, Killed Inside Car in Downtown Brooklyn: NYPD

A hip-hop producer and father of three who was shot while sitting at a red light in downtown Brooklyn early Monday died after trying to drive himself to the hospital, family members and police say.

Eric McKinney, 31, was found with gunshot wounds to the left arm and torso inside a car at Ashland Place and DeKalb Avenue around 2:30 a.m., the NYPD said.

He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say McKinney was stopped at a red light when someone came up and fired several shots into his vehicle. Eight shell casings were found where the car was stopped.

Family members say McKinney is a music producer who lived in Fort Greene. He had three children.

His family and police both say that McKinney tried to drive himself to the hospital after the shooting, but crashed his Jeep, then tried to reverse the vehicle and crashed again on the opposite side of the street.

His body was found at the second crash site.
