Man Arrested in Bronx Tourist Hotel Rape

The woman told police she had a brief conversation with the man on the subway and he later forced his way into her Bronx hotel room

Police arrested a Bronx man for allegedly raping a 33-year-old tourist in her hotel room after apparently following her from the subway, authorities said.

Ivan Jones, 27, was arrested late Thursday in connection with the incident. He was charged with rape, robbery, strangulation and assault. It wasn't immediately known if he had an attorney.

The woman told police she had a brief conversation with the suspect on the train at East 14th Street and Union Square early Wednesday. She got off the train in the Bronx and went to her room at the Howard Johnson Express Inn.

She said there was a knock on her door around 4 a.m. When she opened the door, the suspect pushed his way into the room and raped her, police said.

Two women visiting New York from Washington D.C., who were staying in the room next door to the woman, said they saw the victim speaking with police. She seemed very shaken up and had a black eye, the women told NBC 4 New York.

The two women checked out a night early, they said.
