Man Jumps Into Hudson River on Dare, Needs to Be Rescued: Police

A New Jersey man who jumped into the Hudson River Sunday night on a dare needed to be rescued by emergency responders, police confirmed.

Damien Bziukiewicz, 22, of East Rutherford jumped off the southern end of Pier A and became distressed, requiring several agencies to come to his aid, NJ.com first reported.

Officials had to throw Bziukiewicz a rope and lower a ladder over the side of the pier so he could climb out of the water. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and charged with violating a city ordinance banning swimming in waters adjacent to public parks.

It was not immediately clear if Bziukiewicz had an attorney.
