A 58-year-old man was killed by an oncoming train in Manhattan Saturday morning after police say he may have jumped down onto the subway tracks to retrieve an item.
Officials say Washington Heights resident John Williams was struck by a southbound D train at the West 72nd Street station at around 6 a.m.
He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival, police said.
It was unclear exactly why Williams was on the tracks.
