Prosecutors say the death of an elderly man whose body was found in his southern New Jersey home this week will be investigated as a homicide.

A cause of death for 76-year-old Anthony Verdicchio has not been disclosed.

The body was found around 5:15 p.m. Monday in Verdicchio's trailer at Pine Acres in Manchester Township after an acquaintance went to his home to check on him when he failed to join his friends Monday for their daily morning coffee meeting.

Verdicchio was last seen alive Sunday at a church service.

Ocean County authorities tell the Asbury Park Press that they suspect the death is a homicide due to the condition of Verdicchio's body, but would not provide further details.
