Police are looking for the robber who put a 60-year-old man in a headlock and dragged him down some stairs before stabbing him several times and taking his cellphone.
Police say the victim was targeted inside his Bronx building on Intervale Avenue at about 11:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
The man told NBC 4 New York that he thought he was going to die.
"I said, 'it's over for me,'" he said Friday.
He said he was able to stagger to his fourth-floor apartment, where his wife called 911 as he bled from stab wounds to his back and side.
He has lived in the same apartment for 16 years.
Police are also looking for a woman who acted as a lookout during the attack.
