Man Dies in East Harlem Fire: Police

An East Harlem man died Sunday morning after he apparently jumped from a window of burning apartment building, police said.

The unidentified man was found outside the building and had sustained severe body trauma. He was taken to Harlem Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses said the man, believed to be in his 50s, jumped to flee the 5:50 a.m. blaze at 245 E. 124th St., police said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was confined to the inside of the building.

A firefighter was injured, as were three other people, FDNY officials said. Information about their injuries wasn't available and the cause of the fire is unknown.
