NJ Man, 70, Punched in Parking Lot Dispute Dies; Police Hunt Suspect

Robert Sabio, 70, was assaulted last Wednesday night and died two days later from the injuries

A 70-year-old New Jersey man died after he was punched in a dispute over a parking lot fender bender, and police are searching for the suspect.

Authorities say Robert Sabio hit another car while backing out of a parking spot in Irvington, N.J., last Wednesday, and the driver retaliated by punching him.

Sabio died two days later from the injuries. His family wants police to find the person who assaulted him so no one else is harmed.

"Catching whoever did it isn't going to bring him back, but at least it will prevent them from doing it to someone else, so someone else doesn't have to go through this," said Linda Sabio, who was married to Robert for 43 years.

Essex County investigators believe there were witnesses who can identify the person who punched Sabio.

Sabio's funeral is Wednesday and his family expects hundreds to attend. They say he was kind and generous, often helping elderly people with their errands.

"He would do anything for anyone," Linda Sabio said. "If anyone needed a hand, he would do what they needed."
