A 22-year-old driver trying to speed away from a traffic stop was decapitated when he crashed into a tractor-trailer that appeared to shear off the top of his car Wednesday, law enforcement sources say.

The man was driving on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway in a black Infiniti sedan around noon when an officer on foot approached him about a possible traffic infraction, sources say. The man drove off, and the officer got in his patrol car and stopped the car a few feet away.

The officer got out of his car, and the driver again gave him the slip, speeding off and slamming into a truck near the Atlantic Avenue off-ramp, sources say.

The car crashed before the officer could start pursuing the vehicle, sources say.

The driver, identified as Leroy Samuel, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old woman in the passenger's seat was taken to the hospital with neck and back pain.
