A construction worker was killed on Governors Island after being crushed by a large, falling pipe.

Police say that Abbas Behnam-Bakhsh of Staten Island was killed after the pipe broke loose while he was unloading a flatbed truck Friday morning.

Authorities say the accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m.

Behnam-Bakhsh was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims had minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

Police say the 55-year-old was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 15.  Union representatives couldn't be reached for comment.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration is investigating.
