Man Arrested in Long Island Sandwich Shop Robberies: Police

Police have arrested a man for robbing three sandwich shops on Long Island.

Michael Burwell, 24, was charged with robbing the three shops between May 26 and July 24, Suffolk County police said.

Burwell first robbed a shop on Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore around 8:30 p.m. on May 26.

On July 24, he robbed a sandwich shop on Connetquot Avenue in Islip Terrace around 8:35p.m. and another one on Veterans Memorial Highway in Islandia just half an hour later. Police say in both those robberies he displayed a gun.

Burwell was arrested Tuesday in North Babylon. He was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, one count of third-degree robbery, resisting arrest and escape. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
