Man Accuses NJ Mayor of Choking Him

A New Jersey man is accusing the mayor of Union City of choking him for attending a public meeting.

The Jersey Journal reports that Secaucus resident Ray Mitchell has filed a simple assault charge against Union City Mayor Brian Stack.

Mitchell claims Stack questioned his attendance at public meetings, accused him of being a spy, and choked him at a Dec. 14 township holiday party.

Stack has denied the charge through a city spokesman, calling the accusation silly and saying nothing happened.

The 33-year-old Mitchell tells the newspaper that he works in real estate and attends city council meetings in several towns to keep up to date on local issues.

A hearing is set for Jan. 7.
