Suffolk County police are investigating a motor vehicle accident in which a 79-year-old pedestrian was killed on Long Island.
Fred Mahnken of Shirley was struck by a car as he was crossing William Floyd Parkway in Shirley just before 11:30 a.m. Monday. He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the car, 94-year-old Aniello Scotti of Shirley, was not injured.
