A robbery suspect threatened a livery driver with a machete Sunday morning, but instead cut himself and landed in a hospital, said police, who were waiting to arrest him there.
The suspect, a 25-year-old Cloyd Clarke, flagged down a livery driver just before 8 a.m. and climbed into the front seat, police said.
The driver became upset and told Clarke to get out of the vehicle. As he exited, Clarke managed to grab cash and a computer tablet without the driver noticing, investigators said.
Clarke then summoned another cab and after being persuaded to sit in the back seat was taken to his destination in Queens. Feeling uneasy about his passenger, the driver called other livery drivers, who arrived at the address -- including the driver whose cash and tablet were stolen.
The drivers confronted Clarke who agreed to return what was taken. He went into the residence at 95th avenue and 115th Street and returned to the cab with a machete, police said.
He subsequently cut his hand and was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where police waited for him to be treated and released.
