New MTA Subway Map Details Weekend Service Changes

Digital map will be customized each weekend to reflect changes

New Yorkers who are frustrated by weekend subway disruptions will get some help from the people who run the system.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is unveiling a new map Friday that will run every weekend on the authority's website.

The digital map will be customized each weekend to reflect the service changes that often confuse riders.

The map will be searchable by line, borough and station and will flag trouble spots with blinking lights, reports The New York Times.

Weekend ridership is at its highest level in decades, but transit workers still perform most maintenance and repair work on Saturdays and Sundays.

The work often causes service changes. For example, the L train has been entirely canceled along much of its route on two weekends this month.
