Buying extra MetroCards before the fare increase in March won’t help you save money,
the MTA says.

Monthly and weekly MetroCards bought before the March 1 scheduled fare hike must be
swiped and activated by March 11 to receive their full value.

There will be no loopholes to avoid the higher price, the MTA says.

Monthly MetroCards bought  before the increase will expire by April 9 and weekly
MetroCards will expire by March 17.
